  • Comment: This book contained numerous tips and plenty of good advice. This book would be especially helpful for someone who is unfamiliar with social media and needs a beginner's guide. This book also has many good tips for someone like myself who has used social media for personal reasons but has never used it for business purposes. I have been using facebook for a few years, so I skimmed through that section and was still able to find out things about facebook that I was unaware of.

    It is also a very quick read. I sat down and read through the entire book in one evening. The author has a very conversational tone to her writing, which makes the book more interesting than many guidebooks tend to be.

  • Comment: I really hate to give this a bad review, and actually I am not....the content is excellent. But I bought it digitally and had it downloaded to my phone with a Kindle version. The problem is, there are huge grey blocks cluttering the pages with no text graphics or anything in the grey blocks. Also, the tables and text in picture blocks is so small it is not readable, and there is no way to increase the size to make it readable. (You can adjust the book text, but not the text in the graphic boxes.) I was hoping for a great opportunity to buy books on the fly and read them on my smart phone...but alas, it appears the technology is not perfected.

    In addition their is no satisfying resolve from Amazon or Kindle. Their response is they will look into it.

    I would have liked for them to say they would send me the hard copy of the book immediately and then deal with their issues as they can. I am not looking to get two versions, just one that I can use and read without expense or delays. This is their issue and they should find a way to satisfy their customers while they are sorting it out.

    This is a book that you will want to refer to again and again. Each time I open it, I find a new sidebar article I hadn't read before, or a tip that I overlooked. If you spot this bright yellow book, don't pass it over - its a social media gem!

With the excellent coverage of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, it's may also be the first one you need for today's web. The info (each gets it's own chapter) is very timely and thorough. Plus! There is online content that is kept up to date. You can access it with the information in the book. There are also references to integrating other sites such as ping.fm, digg, StumbleUpon, and Delicious into your plans.

    You'll find one of the keys early in the book helps to crystalize your plan for using social networking. A lot of the book references these concepts, specifically how to use the three sites to achieve these goals.

    The acronym is ACT:
    Attract - get people to your website
    Convert - turn strangers into consumers and then customers
    Transform - turn your successes into attraction magnets

    One interesting additional aspect of this book it that it contains a number of excerpts from other works. Normally just a paragraph or two, they are references that help lend credibility to the point as well as provide additional reference opportunities. Examples:

  • Comment: As I continued my journey to read and absorb the new wave of "Social Media" I came upon Shama's book. I'm already reading it for the second time, and can't put it down. I've got pages marked, paragraphs marked. This is a book that gives you the truth, down to earth information, not the hype you see surrounding this topic. I like that.

    Shama, clarify's the how, why, which helps the reader to learn and understand "Social Media". She goes into the Do's and Don'ts of the top social media sites which gives me a road-map and shortens the time it would take me to figure it out on my own.

    With Social Media changing so much, I like the continuous online updates, which keeps it current. If you are in the market for a book on "Social Media" buy this one!
